To cope with the increasing demand for high-level workforce and professionals in the aviation and aerospace industry in Hong Kong, Greater Bay Area and Asia-Pacific region, our Department was first established as an interdisciplinary division in July 2016, and has been renamed as Department of Aeronautical and Aviation Engineering (AAE) since 1 April 2021. Over the years, AAE continues to nurture talents in the area of aeronautical and aviation engineering to cater for the demand of professionals in the industry. The Department’s programmes are unique and cut across the boundaries of engineering and aviation business, these include:
- Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) in Aviation Engineering,
- Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) in Air Transport Engineering,
- Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) Scheme in Aviation Engineering, and
- taught Master of Science in Aviation Engineering programmes.
Graduates are trained to apply their professional knowledge to serve aircraft services engineering, aviation information systems, aircraft component design and manufacture, airlines and airport operation, air transportation, and logistic industries.
The Department strives to play a leading role in bridging the development and innovation in aviation and aeronautical areas with the needs and applications of the aviation industry. Taking the lead in aeronautical and aviation engineering fields, the Department has six major research areas, including Aviation Engineering, Satellite Communication and Navigation, Aerodynamics, Flight Mechanics and Control, Aerospace Structures and Materials, and Aerospace Propulsion and Combustion. Research and findings from these research areas can be applied to various innovations. The collaboration with the industries, together with the excellent facilities and expertise in the Department, enables the sustainable growth and competitiveness of our students and the industrial partners.
