IDFYP202324Congratulations to the team led by Dr James Cheung (1st from left) and Ir Dr Duo Wong (2nd from left), Research Assistant Professors of the Department of Biomedical Engineering, who scored the Best Project Award Champion at FENG Inter-departmental Final Year Projects 2023/24. The student team members included NG Tsz Lun (2nd from right), Department of Biomedical Engineering; ZHAO Zian (3rd from right), Department of Computing; and KWONG Wing Tung (3rd from left), NG Chun Yin (4th from left) and PANG Tsz Cheong Jimi (1st from right), Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

Project collaboration is an essential part of engineering education as it helps students develop professional and technical communication skills, leadership skills, and conflict resolution skills. Driven by the goal of fostering interdisciplinary learning opportunities for students, the Faculty has launched the Inter-departmental Final Year Projects (FYPs) since the academic year 2021/22.

In the academic year 2023/24, six projects were led by FENG departments as listed below:

Inter-departmental FYPs 2023/24
(AAE) Intelligent Wheelchair
(BME) Rescuing Robotic System with Integrated Flying Drone and Land Rover
(COMP) Human Robot Interaction in Smart Environments
(EEE) Electric Vertical takeoff and Landing Vehicle (EVTOL)
(EEE) Smart Patrol Robot
(ISE) Proactive Human-Robot Collaborative Service Robot System

Each project is, in principle, undertaken by a diverse team of students from FENG departments, with a mix of local and non-local students. Under the guidance and mentorship of a supervisory team consisting of the project coordinator(s) and second supervisors assigned to each student, students are expected to adhere to professional standards and submit all the required project components, and compete for the "Best Project Award" and the "Creative Project Award".

Following the Interim Presentation and Final Presentation cum Best Project Award Competition held on 4 Jan 2024 and 3 May 2024, respectively, the results for the Best Project Award are listed as follows:
