The PolyU E-Formula Racing Team is currently experimenting with various new developments to improve the racing car’s performance, while at the same time, keeping costs low and ensuring that resources are utilized effectively.
To allocate more time for testing, the team has decided to focus on making incremental design changes for major components to enable continuous development. They believe that this method can help save resources and let the team collect more valuable data for future designs and undertaking the necessary validation work. The move can also help better utilize human resources so as to remain competitive in the upcoming seasons.
On the electronics side, a complete redesign of the Low Voltage box has been planned and combined with smaller PCBs, the new LV box will have a smaller footprint in addition to being lighter. Better mountings will also be designed so that the LV box can fit in its small compartment more efficiently. To further save precious space, the current dashboard will be replaced with a thinner alternative, plus more effective mountings. Another area that will be improved involves the wiring harnesses. With the use of RapidHarness software, the team will be able to achieve a better design of the wiring table and layout, while reducing the complexity, which will allow for easier manufacturing.
