13th International Conference on Chinese Ancient Documents and Traditional Culture
The 13th International Conference on Chinese Ancient Documents and Traditional Culture was conducted at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University on 10-13 October 2024. An annual event, the conference is alternately held at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Beijing Normal University, and The Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. This year, the conference was organised by Prof. Chu Hung-lam, Distinguished Research Professor, and Prof. Chang Weiling, Assistant Professor. Prof. Han Xiaorong, Head of the Department of Chinese History and Culture, hosted the opening ceremony.
The focus of the conference was on the excavation, dissemination, and preservation of ancient Chinese texts. A total of 42 people participated in the conference, with 40 presenting papers. The speakers at the conference came from Hong Kong, Mainland China, Taiwan, South Korea, Malaysia, and the United States. The papers presented during the event discussed a great many topics, including Chinese palaeography, historiography, Confucianism, Buddhism, and Daoism. The conference thus successfully promoted academic exchange and enhanced the visibility of our university.
Prof. Chang led the closing ceremony. Prof. Chu summarised the proceedings, while Prof. Liu Zhongyu (Head of the Ancient Cultural History Research Office at the Institute of Ancient History, The Chinese Academy of Social Sciences) announced plans for the next conference, to be held in 2025. The event will contribute to the continued exploration of vital cultural topics.
