KIM Minju (from Korea)
Admitted to BA (Hons) in English and Applied Linguistics

Demi KIM MinjuThe BA programme in English Studies for the Professions truly broadened my perspective of the world by exploring the intricate relationship between language and society. Courses like Critical Discourse Analysis, English as a Global Lingua Franca, and many others focused on sociolinguistics taught me how societal changes, such as colonisation and globalisation, are deeply intertwined with linguistic evolution. Beyond theoretical knowledge, the programme teaches students with practical communication skills tailored for English-speaking workplaces. I’m grateful that we had a chance to learn the importance of communication strategies in business settings that prepared us for jobs after graduation. This dual focus on sociolinguistics and communication enhanced my understanding of endlessly internationalising society, and helped me to understand the roots of cultural, political, and economic differences of the world. By actively participating in many student activities and initiatives, I was able to start my path as an international civil servant and develop a comprehensive understanding of global crises.
