A Message from the new ELC Director
Highlights
I am really looking forward to assuming duty as Director of The English Language Centre (ELC) on 11 January 2021 and meeting my new colleagues. The ELC is well known within the Hong Kong language education community, and I am proud to now be a part of the team. The past year was a unique experience for all of us, and I was impressed by how ELC members collaborated with other institutions to ensure that all students receive the best language education possible. I am also looking forward to exploring new initiatives in language education, pedagogy, and scholarship with members of the PolyU community. 2020 proved that we are professional and resilient educators. The year also taught us new pedagogical skills, making us even better teachers and scholars.
I have been working in higher education for nearly 20 years in various roles and taught subjects that include Digital Literacies, English for Academic Purposes, Social Complex Systems, and Technology-enhanced Language Teaching and Learning for UG and PG students. My research interests and publications are in areas related to educational technology, digital literacies, and networked learning. While it may seem strange to join PolyU under the current circumstances, where I may not have a chance to meet many of you face-to-face for some time, I am confident 2021 will be a good year. All the best, Sean.
