26 Department of Applied Physics AP jointly established with Huawei the PolyU-Huawei Joint AI Laboratory to provide the latest AI facilities and technology for teaching and research. This AI laboratory provides essential support to our new programme, Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Physics with a Secondary Major in Artificial Intelligence & Data Analytics (AIDA) / Innovation and Entrepreneurship (IE). In addition, its high-performance computing capability accelerates the energy materials research, such as machinelearning-based material discovery for electrocatalysis and 2D semiconductors. PolyU-Huawei Joint AI Laboratory Field Emission Electron Microscope STEM (JEOL JEM-2100F) Spectra 300 Transmission Electron Microscope Dual Beam Multi-system FIB (JEOL JIB-4501) example, Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopes (Tescan MIRA, MAIA3, VEGA3), XPS (Thermo Scientific Nexsa), X-ray Diffractometers (Rigaku SmartLab, SE-3kW, 9kW-Advance), Scanning Probe Microscope (Bruker NanoScope 8, Asylum MFP3D Infinity), Field Emission Electron Microscope STEM (JEOL Model JEM-2100F, JEM-2010), Dual Beam Multi-system FIB (JEOL Model JIB-4501), Precision Ion Polishing System PIPS (Gatan 691), etc. A yellow room designed for photolithography AP has been leading the establishment and utilisation of the University Research Facility in Materials Characterization and Device Fabrication (UMF), which consists of four laboratories: Centre for Electron Microscopy, Materials Research Centre, Clean Room and Micro-/Nano-Devices Fabrication & Sensing Technologies, positioning PolyU a world-level research hub for materials research and innovations. AP has managed to update its research infrastructure with a number of cutting-edge facilities for advanced atomic-level fabrication, characterisation and test of 2D materials, for AP received a grant of HK$10M to set up Jockey Club STEM Laboratory of 2D Quantum Materials to investigate growth, materials chemistry and device physics of 2D quantum materials for energyefficient memory devices in computing and artificial intelligence. He also got RMB9.3M to establish Quantum Science Centre of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area to characterise atomic and electronic structures of quantum materials.
