Introduction of various anionic templates promotes the formation of distinct nanoclusters. The templates can either be intentionally added or generated in situ, which give rise to corresponding nanoclusters with different nuclearity, size, shape as well as property. Such a templating strategy aims to dictate the assembly of atomically-precise materials with intriguing properties, which help to establish the structure-property relationship.
