Outstanding Alumni Award in Scholarly Achievement of
PolyU Faculty of Science
Prof. Liu Dongsheng earned his PhD in Chemistry from PolyU in 2002, and he currently serves as a Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Tsinghua University. Prof. Liu has published 150 papers, which have garnered over 7000 citations, and the filing of 10 patents. In recognition of his outstanding contributions, Prof. Liu has been elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (2011) and a Fellow of the Chinese Chemical Society (2020). He has also been nominated for the prestigious 2023 Chinese Academician election. His accolades include the 100 Talent Program Awards of CAS (2005), the First CCS-RSC Young Scientist Award (2009), the 7th CCS-BASF Youth Innovation Prize (2014), and the Chang Jiang Scholar Chair Professorship (2016). Prof. Liu has played a significant role in the academic community, serving as an editor or deputy editor for several esteemed journals. His leadership and influence have also been instrumental in nominating PolyU colleagues for fellowship in professional bodies, including the FRSC and FCCS.

Mr Dave Chen graduated from PolyU with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Physics in 2001. He is currently the Head of Information Technology at the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, advocating for the adoption of Enterprise, Digital, Cloud, Security, AI, and Big Data Architecture. With over 20 years of experience in IT management and consultancy, Mr Chen has established himself as a leader in the industry and received the "World CIO 200 Award" in the "Legend Category" from the Global CIO Forum in 2023 and the "Leadership Award in Open Architecture Standard" from the Open Group in 2024. He is also a strong supporter of PolyU, contributing to the university in various capacities. He served as speaker for career talks and master’s program, and he also participated in video interviews, departmental reviews and the PolyU Inspire Mentorship program.
Prof. Hu Shenglong
Outstanding Young Alumni Award in Scholarly Achievement of
PolyU Faculty of Science
Prof. Hu Shenglong obtained his PhD degree in Mathematics from PolyU in 2013. He is now a Professor at the Hangzhou Dianzi University. Prof. Hu is devoted to mathematical optimisation research, with a particular focus on tensor computation. He has published 60 papers in top-tier journals, such as Mathematical Programming, Numerische Mathematik, SIAM Journal, etc., and garnered over 1300 citations. In view of his outstanding achievement in the field, he received prestigious awards, including the Zhejiang Provincial Mathematical Society Research Achievement Prize (2021), the Science China-Math Best Paper Prize (2017), the Tianjin Mathematical Society Youth Research Prize (2017). His research excellence has also been supported by four grants from the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC).
Prof. Zhang Kai
Outstanding Young Alumni Award in Scholarly Achievement of
PolyU Faculty of Science
Prof. Zhang Kai graduated from PolyU with a PhD degree in Physics in 2011. Currently, he serves as a Professor at the Suzhou Institute of Nano-Tech and Nano-Bionics (SINANO), Chinese Academy of Sciences. Prof. Zhang's research focuses on the creation and application of terahertz optoelectronic devices, his innovative work has led to the publication of over 100 papers in prestigious journals, including Nature Materials, Nature Communications, and Advanced Materials, etc. In recognition of his research endeavours, Prof. Zhang has received multiple awards, including the Wiley China Open Science High Contribution Author award in 2023, the NSFC Distinguished Young Scholars award in 2023, and the NSFC Outstanding Young Scholars award in 2019. Additionally, he was honored with the First Prize of the Innovation Award of the Invention and Entrepreneurship Award in 2022, the Springer Nature’s Nano Research 45 Young Innovators Award in 2021, and the Top Ten Research Progress Nomination Award of the Journal of Semiconductors in 2020.
