PolyU's Faculty of Humanities, a leading tertiary education provider in language sciences, language technologies, Chinese–English bilingual studies and translation, intercultural communication and cultural and historical studies of Mainland China, is ranked among the top 10 in Asia1.
Our programmes meet the demands of a multicultural, knowledge-based and technology-intensive society. With our cutting-edge curriculum, students gain the knowledge and practical skills to address global issues in a wide range of professions. The Faculty has nurtured many outstanding graduates who excel in professional fields such as bilingual corporate communication, translation, interpretation, speech therapy, language teaching, media, business, management, administration and marketing.
The Faculty also offers Minor programmes in Asian and European languages such as French, German, Spanish, Korean and Japanese, cultivating students’ proficiency in multilingualism and intercultural communication. Both the University and the Faculty provide scholarships and funding for undergraduates, enabling them to gain international perspectives through overseas learning experiences, student exchange programmes, internships, international competitions and academic research. The Faculty has also advanced language and simultaneous interpretation laboratories for students' use.
The Faculty offers five undergraduate programmes. Students can enter a programme directly or choose the Bachelor’s Degree Scheme in Humanities and apply for their major study after Year 1. Some programmes also offer Artificial Intelligence and Data Analysis as an optional Secondary Major, which includes professional subjects related to information technology and big data analysis to enhance students' data-analysis skills and employability.
