Reinforcing a shared commitment between PolyU and alumni
The Alumni Atrium represents two driving forces: culture of support and commitment to nurturing and giving at PolyU
We regard the University’s alumni as part of our family, and acknowledging their legacy and commitment is hugely important to us. Alumni are our connection to the wider world, and they in turn can feel proud to belong to the PolyU family.
With that deep connection in mind, PolyU took the very bold step of revitalising part of the campus and creating the Alumni Atrium as a gift, offering our alumni a place to meet, relax and socialise. Opened on 25th November 2016, the Alumni Atrium is especially designed to encourage interaction in a warm and pleasant environment, the 250 square metre multipurpose venue features a multi-function hall, common area, gallery and meeting rooms, among other facilities.
Highlighting the four stages of PolyU’s development and further promoting our close ties with alumni, the Wall of Pride @ Alumni Atrium is an extension of the Wall of Pride on the campus’s main podium level. Externally, the lawn in front of the Atrium features “Congregation”, a set of eight stainless-steel bird-shaped sculptures symbolising the sense of togetherness for a purpose fostered within.
Situated near the main campus entrance at the very heart of university life, the Atrium not only provides an invaluable and easy to reach hub for PolyU’s alumni to gather, but also draws in staff and students in support of each other. The venue has already hosted more than 250 activities for over 10,000 participants since its opening, receiving tremendous support from the university community.
A key feature of the Atrium is the series of nameplates placed on prominent display, acknowledging alumni who have made donations for the purpose. These tastefully designed plates are testament to our alumni’s generosity and their willingness to advance the University’s general development. Also available are opportunities to make larger donations that are recognised by naming facilities. The common area and gallery have already been named, and a plaque recognising another very generous and thoughtful donor has been placed on the Atrium’s façade.
By donating to your alma mater and supporting this meaningful hub, you will help to promote and enliven PolyU’s culture of giving. Together, we will leave a lasting legacy of mutual support, as embodied in this lively, welcoming and forward-looking space.
