Students’ efforts to boost recycling and promote sustainability

The Inter-hall Recycling Competition runs again at Homantin Halls from November 2016 to February 2017. It has become a signature event annually and each month is devoted to collecting and recycling of one specific material type. Hall residents are encouraged to place recyclable items in the corresponding recycle bins at the lounge of each hall. Students showed their full support. A total of 63.8 kg of plastics was collected in November and an impressive quantity of 602.1 kg of waste paper was collected for recycling in December 2016. Residents are expected to contribute recyclable metal and glass items in January and February 2017.

Apart from the Recycling Competition, Green Hall organized a Movie Night featuring the newly released documentary about climate change titled Before the Flood. The activity aimed to arouse residents’ awareness on the urgency to reduce energy waste in order to preserve our planet. About 30 students attended the event.
