Drawing attention on external lighting

PolyU signed up the Charter on External Lighting in April 2016 and pledged to switch off external lighting installations with decorative and promotional purposes on campus from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. daily. It also continuously promotes and encourages staff and students to take actions against light nuisance and minimize energy wastage. The University was presented with the Platinum Award at the Award Ceremony on 15 June 2017.

The Charter invites owners of and responsible persons for external lighting installations to switch off lighting installations of decorative, promotional or advertising purposes which affect the outdoor environment during the preset time (i.e. from 11 p.m. or midnight to 7 a.m. on the following day).
