University reveals plans to set up research institutes focusing smart city, smart mobility and sustainable energy

PolyU has received a generous donation of HK$100 million from Ir Dr Otto Poon Lok-to, Founder and Chairman of ATAL Engineering Group, to support the University's strategic research endeavors in areas related to smart city and smart mobility, as well as smart and sustainable energy. The University will then establish two research institutes and two endowed professorships for related disciplines under his name. The institute set up for research in areas related to smart city and smart mobility will work on developing frontier technologies with a focus on smart mobility, especially for aging and densely populated urban environment. Meanwhile, the institute set up for research in areas related to smart and sustainable energy will advance the University's interdisciplinary strength with a focus on sustainable energy conversion, storage, and utilization.
