A local environmental group collaborated with NGOs in Hong Kong and Taiwan in a survey on PET plastic drink containers collected in 16 coastal clean-ups in Hong Kong. 5,200 bottles were collected with recognizable brands. By reading the plastic bottle packaging and the characters, it was estimated that two-thirds of bottles probably came from across the border while the rest were in Traditional Chinese. The figures showed mainland manufacturers and local firms should both take responsibility. Green Groups urged all drinks makers to do more to reduce plastic waste and consider measures for efficient plastic bottle recycling.
