According to one of the studies ever conducted in Hong Kong, the average concentration of tiny plastic particles in Hong Kong’s waters has increased 11-fold in just three years. It reflected that the ‘prevalent use of plastic packaging’ in Hong Kong was evident and over-packaging in Hong Kong become normal. In particular, we see unnecessary and excessive packaging for fruits and vegetables in supermarket. Once enters into the sea, the plastics are weathered and will break down into microplastic debris that can be ingested by marine organisms, deforming the digestive systems of fish. We should reflect upon why this happens and how we can help prevent this from worsening.
