Joint PhD Supervision Scheme with Chinese Mainland Universities

This scheme aims to support the joint supervision of full-time PhD students from leading universities in Mainland China to conduct research at PolyU as a Research Assistant (RA) for a period of 12 months. Successful students will receive a monthly salary of HK$18,840 (for the Academic Year 2024/25). The supervisor from the student’s home university will act as Chief Supervisor, while the supervisor from PolyU will act as Co-supervisor of the student until the student’s completion of studies.

 

Eligibility

  • The student must be enrolled in a full-time PhD programme at a leading university in Mainland China
  • The 12-month RA appointment period at PolyU must fall within the study period of the student

 

Application procedures and timeline

  • Step 1: Interested students seek consent from their Chief Supervisor before participating in the scheme.
  • Step 2: Interested students approach a potential PolyU supervisor for their consideration.
  • Step 3: The supervisors of the two universities collaborate to craft a research project proposal, including the students’ potential involvement in the research project at PolyU.
  • Step 4: The PolyU supervisor submits an application to PolyU.

The scheme accepts applications on an annual cycle. The call for applications from PolyU supervisors typically opens in December, with the deadline in February of the next year. Interested students are recommended to approach potential PolyU supervisors in advance for discussions on the application process and timelines.
