Extension of Study Visa (For Non-local Students only)

Non-local RPg students are holders of the following documents issued by the Immigration Department:

  1. Student visa/entry permit;
  2. Visa/entry permit under the Immigration Arrangements for Non-local Graduates (IANG);
  3. Dependent visa/entry permit for students who were 18 years old or above when they were issued with such visa/entry permit by the Director of Immigration;
  4. FT employment visa/work permit.

Non-local FT RPg students must hold a valid visa/entry permit, i.e., no. 1 to 3 as mentioned above, during their FT study at PolyU while non-local PT RPg students must hold a valid FT employment visa/work permit during their PT study at PolyU.

PolyU will sponsor a non-local FT RPg student to study in Hong Kong until the day he/she ceases to be registered in the FT RPg programme.  However, PolyU will not sponsor the RPg student’s spouse or dependents.

Regardless of the type of visa/entry permit held by the non-local RPg students, it should be their responsibility to ensure that they hold a valid visa for their studies at PolyU.

FT RPg students admitted from the 2018/19 cohort onwards should follow the procedures as described in Chapter 9 of the “Important Notes for Non-local Students of the Student Handbook 2024-25” published by the Academic Registry (AR) at https://www.polyu.edu.hk/ar/students-in-taught-programmes/student-handbook/ to apply for extension of their study visas.

FT RPg students admitted in or before the 2017/18 cohort should approach the GS for a testimonial by submission of the Form GSB/19 in support of their application for extension of their study visas.

Any non-local RPg students whose study visa is due to expire but at the same time residing overseas due to different reason(s) should apply for the study visa extension by completing the Form ID91.  More details can be found at the website of the Immigration Department at http://www.immd.gov.hk.
