- Composition of Assessment Panel
The Assessment Panel shall consist of the following members:
- the PolyU Chief Supervisor;
- the Chief Supervisor from partner university (for Dual PhD programmes)/Co-supervisor from partner institution/university (for PolyU Joint PhD Supervision programmes);
- internal and external co-supervisors, if any; and
- two independent members from the Department/School, one of whom shall be the Chair of the Panel. They shall have appropriate expertise related to the RPg programme and have no conflict of interest with the RPg student. The Chair shall be a senior staff member at the rank of Associate Professor or above and will chair the RPg student’s presentation for Confirmation of Registration as well as the Assessment Panel meeting after the presentation.
The Chief Supervisor from partner university (for Dual PhD programmes)/Co-supervisor from partner institution/university (for PolyU Joint PhD Supervision programmes) and co-supervisors may attend the presentation either in person or through video/teleconferencing facilities.
- Role and Responsibilities of Assessment Panel
The Assessment Panel formed by the D/SRC is required to:
- review the written report;
- attend a presentation by the RPg student;
- assess the RPg student’s progress (including both coursework and research components) during his/her provisional registration period; and
- consider the requirements the RPg student’s English proficiency. If the RPg student’s command of the English language is not up to the required standard, the panel may recommend the student to make a second presentation within a maximum of three months or before the deadline for confirmation of registration (whichever is shorter), or termination of study.

- make recommendation to the DoRPgS on the student’s registration
