Seven members of the Academy were at the 66th meeting of the International Association of Experts in Scientific Tourism (AIEST) which this year was held in Malta. Founded just after the Second World War, AIEST is the oldest such body of tourism specialists in the world and its members come from all parts of the world. Dimitrios is new Editor in Chief of Tourism Review

  • As of October 1st Dimitrios was appointed as the new Editor in Chief of Tourism Review Journal taking over from fellow Academician Professor Christian Laesser who did an excellent job to develop the journal. He welcomes manuscripts from academy members and is open to suggestions for special issues as well as requests to support academic conferences.

Richard Butler

Richard was keynote speaker at the 2nd INTACT (International Academic Conference on Tourism) on Archipelago Tourism, held September 28-29th, in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The conference was organised by Gadjah Mada University following the central theme of INTACT conferences of Marine Tourism.  His paper was titled "Archipelago Tourism - More Questions than Answers?".


 

Kaye Chon

Kaye was awarded Martin Oppermann Lifetime Achievement Award at the annual conference of the International Society of Travel & Tourism Educators (ISTTE), held in Hangzhou, China, on 11-14 October 2017.

Sarah Dolnicar

Awards

Sara and her co-authors Associate Professor Astrid Kemperman and Dr Logi Karlsson won the Emerald Best Contribution Award for the overall best contribution at the 2016 AIEST conference for their analysis of what makes peer-to-peer accommodation networks like AirBnB so radically different from other tourism accommodation options.

Sara has also been presented with the Sentinel of Science Award for being among the 10% most prolific reviewers in Business, Management and Accounting worldwide. Currently, Sara is the most active peer reviewer in tourism internationally (http://prw.publons.com/).

Dianne Dredge

Dianne (together with Szilvia Gymothy of Aalborg University, Denmark) completed a report for the European Commission's DG GROWTH to examine the impact of regulatory approaches targeting collaborative economy in the tourism accommodation sector in the cities of Barcelona, Berlin, Amsterdam and Paris. The report was presented at the European Commission is hosting its Tourism Forum in Bratislava, Slovakia on 11-12 October in Bratslava, Solvakia.
