Three Academy fellows, David Airey, BAO Jigang and Kaye Chon, were in Guilin PRC on 11 and 12 October for the inauguration meeting and First Plenary Session of the International Advisory Committee of Guilin Tourism University. Professor Chon is chair of the committee. Other members of the committee include senior international and Chinese academics as well as leaders of the tourism sector. The committee will be helping this major centre for tourism education and training in China to develop its provision to meet the changing needs for tourism education.
Furthermore, five Academy Fellows (BAO Jigang, Kaye Chon, Nelson Graburn, David Airey, and Dimitrios Buhalis) were invited speakers at the 12th UNWTO /PATA Forum on Tourism Trends and Outlook in Guilin, China, which was organized in collaboration with The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
