Richard would like to ask Academy members to consider the action of UNWTO in congratulating Mugabe for his role in tourism and in selecting Zimbabwe as co-host of the UNWTO conference next year, despite the abysmal human rights record of Mugabe and his regime and the fact that Mugabe and several of his cabinet are under EU and UN travel restrictions. Canada is withdrawing from UNWTO in protest and Richard would like to ask the Executive to consider having the Academy either to withdraw from cooperation with UNWTO in support of this stand, or at least to send a letter of condemnation to UNWTO for its actions in this regard.
