The Invited Scholar initiative proved to be a success this year. Just to remind everybody, we decided to separate invitations to present the Academy from the formal nomination process in order to avoid the situation of embarrassing nominated follows who were clearly unsuitable for membership present at the conference. The option of moving to a separate Invited Scholar scheme would recognize being invited to present at the Academy as a prestigious honour in itself.
A straw vote among fellows in attendance with then be taken, as with the formal nomination process, but with the goal of identifying invited scholars who could then proceed to be nominated through our existing mechanism.
The model was so successful, that a motion was passed at the second business meeting to expand the group of invited scholars to up to 16 for the next conference.
In a similar manner, the cap on the number of emerging scholars was also lifted from 3 to 6.
