Awards and Recognition

Howard B. Meek Award - Prof Kaye Chon was honoured by International Council on Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Education (I-CHRIE) with Howard B. Meek Award in August 2007. Named after the first dean of hospitality school at Cornell University , the award has been annually presented since 1971 to one hospitality educator for his or her lifetime contributions and outstanding service to hospitality education. Prof Chon is the first recipient of the award from Asia Pacific in 36 years.

China Elite Academic Award

Prof Haiyan Song has been honoured with the China Elite Academic Award by the China Hotel Industry Celebrity Club in recognition of his contributions to the hotel and tourism industry.

Excellence Awards 2007

SHTM paid tribute to colleagues who were recognized in research, teaching and service excellence:

  • Research Excellence Award – Prof Haiyan Song
  • Teaching Excellence Award – Dr Simon Wong
  • Service Excellence Award – Mr Paul Penfold

 

Community Service Learning Awards 2006/2007

Two projects led by SHTM colleagues have been chosen for the Community Service Learning Awards 2006/07. Mr Guenther Karch and students involved in their project “Cooking up a Storm” will receive the Certificate of Excellence Award. Ms Chloe Lau and students involved in their project “2007 World Mental Health Congress of the World Federation for Mental Health” will receive Certificate of Outstanding Performance.

 

New Appointments

Dr King Chong joined the SHTM as a full-time Project Fellow and part-time Visiting Lecturer. He is working on the Outcome-Based Education project. He previously served as Assistant Registrar at the Hong Kong Council for Academic Accreditation, and is a Fellow of Hong Kong Public Administration Association (HKPAA)

 

Miss Li Xianhong joined the SHTM as Research Assistant.  She is now working for Prof Cathy Hsu on the project “Determining Chinese Hotel Brand Equity in the Globalizing Market Environment”.

   
Ms Sara Wong joined the SHTM as part-time Visiting Lecturer currently. She is the graduate of MSc in Hotel and Tourism Management in our school. Sara has strong professional experiences in hotel and catering fields.
   
Miss Eling Yim  joined the SHTM as Assistant Officer. She will be assisting Professor Haiyan Song on matters relating to external liaison, China programmes and conference organizations.
