The SHTM this year held its third Industry Appreciation Dinner, with a
combined total of 470 industry partners, final-year students and staff
members attending the 17 April event at The Mira. This dinner was
designed to thank our industry partners for their generosity in providing
scholarships, student placements, Professor-for-a-Day lectures,
mentorships and valuable advice throughout the year.
PolyU President Professor Timothy Tong and Professor Kaye Chon,
Chair Professor and Director of the SHTM, welcomed the guests with
opening addresses.
During the dinner, eleven final-year students from both the undergraduate
and postgraduate programmes spoke about their international exchange
and industry placement experiences and postgraduate study at the SHTM.
The common theme of these talks was their appreciation of the opportunity
to work in and with industry, which has helped them to stay ahead in
today's fast-paced and competitive environment. The most important
element of their student experience, they said, was the development of
international and intercultural understanding. These students will take this
appreciation for and collaboration with different cultures into the workplace
and, ultimately, into the world – and it was made possible by the generous
support of our industry partners. For this, the SHTM is most grateful.
