Headlights consume much energy in a vehicle, which in turn leads to fuel consumption. That's why being an eco-conscious driver should also look into smart headlight design when shopping for an eco-friendly car. Dr. Sandy To, Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering and Professor Eric Cheng, Department of Electrical Engineering, have got just the right invention – LED headlights that consume less energy to begin with, plus freeform optics to magnify its power. Their "green" headlight gives 50% more light, but consuming just 1/10 of the energy as in conventional headlights. Not only is it applicable to vehicular headlights, but also LED street lamps.
