Recycle and re-create

Ever since the dawn of time, to ensure their own survival, humans had been causing harm to the planet somehow. One of such necessary evil was handling waste. As time goes by, the term doesn’t only refer to human metabolic end-products, but also industrial effluents.

Now that we’re more conscious of our impacts on the environment, waste is always treated before being disposed of. In the first project that follows, PolyU researchers worked on a brand new nano-particle that purifies wastewater more efficiently than ever. Even the absorbent particles themselves can be recycled, which makes it the most eco-friendly option to waste treatment.

Besides recycling our resources, scientists also have the wildest dreams to turn useless garbage into useful derivatives so that we have less trash to handle and more useful material to work with. In the second and third projects, PolyU scholars successfully turned industrial wastewater into biodegradable plastic and construction waste into building blocks respectively. It’s truly a dream come true for the humankind.
