Innovative Education Approaches to Enhance Graduate Employability

3 Feb 2025

The rapidly evolving landscape of higher education calls for innovative educational practices. Students would be more prepared for the fast-changing future when educators adopt pedagogies that enable them to gain skills and knowledge not normally obtainable within normal classroom settings.

Prof Vincent LEUNG, IHERD Fellow, and his team members engaged in various initiatives to enhance the overall employability of students. In particular, the projects on Digital Literacy and Internationalisation at Home have received positive results.

The project on Digital Literacy in Higher Education focuses on innovative research that emphasises the critical role of digital skills in today’s academic environment. The study by Prof LEUNG’s team, distinguished by its scenario-based and staff-student partnership approach, has provided valuable insights into effective teaching methodologies that enhance student engagement and learning outcomes. By collaborating with faculty and students, they have developed a framework that integrates digital literacy into the curriculum, fostering a more informed and responsible digital citizenry. Their findings have laid the groundwork for future initiatives, including implementing augmented reality tools to address real-world ethical dilemmas.

The project on the pioneering concept of Internationalisation at Home aims at enhancing global learning experiences for students. Prof LEUNG has been actively contributed to this initiative that fosters collaboration among students from diverse cultural backgrounds around the world. Students engage in joint case discussions without the need to travel, developing essential skills including critical thinking, communication, and cultural competence. The Global Classroom model broadens exposure to international perspectives and deepens appreciation for cultural diversity. Feedback from participants highlights increased confidence in cross-cultural communication and a greater understanding of global issues.

The two projects were presented during eLearning Forum Asia 2024 and 2023 respectively. Prof LEUNG’s team was also named one of the six finalists for the teaching award with the project on Internationalisation at Home.
