Chinese language education in the age of GenAI

The advancement in Generative AI (GenAI) technologies has brought changes to the education field in ways not previously imaginable. Language teaching as one of the areas of education certainly feels the impact of GenAI. While many do not welcome the introduction of GenAI into the classroom, the project team led by Ms. Sarah WONG, IHERD Fellow and Instructor of Chinese Language Centre, thinks otherwise.

Delegation to Nanyang Technological University, Singapore

A delegation comprising Prof KY WONG, Vice President (Education), Prof HU Xiangen, Director of the Institute for Higher Education Research and Development (IHERD), Dr Julia CHEN, Dean of Educational Development Centre (EDC) and representatives from various Faculties/Schools visited Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore on 2-3 May 2024.

Hands-on experience with industrial sponsor

While theories and knowledge gained in lectures are important, the ability to apply them when faced with real-life situations is more essential when students head out to the workplace. Faculties of various units in the University have sought ways to integrate theories with application, and Dr Dori DAVARI, Associate IHERD Fellow and Assistant Professor of School of Hotel and Tourism Management, is no exception.

Overseas Tour on Collaboration and Connection

Prof HU Xiangen, Director of the Institute for Higher Education Research and Development (IHERD) went on a tour within the United States to explore collaboration and connection opportunities in June 2024.

The 2nd Assembly of IHERD Fellows

The 2nd Assembly of IHERD Fellows was successfully held on 5 July 2024. With the honourable presence of Prof WONG Kwok-yin, Vice President (Education) of PolyU, the event brought nearly 20 IHERD fellows together who actively engaged in sharing their ideas in small groups on how the IHERD Fellow community as a whole could facilitate the advancement of teaching and learning.

Tour within mainland China on Connection and Exchange

Prof HU Xiangen, Director of the Institute for Higher Education Research and Development (IHERD) went on a tour within mainland China to explore collaboration opportunities and exchange ideas in May and July 2024.
