During the trip, Prof HU had fruitful exchange with academics in the region, and was grateful to be able to invite Prof CHAN Tak-wai, an expert in digital learning, as a speaker for a seminar on A Grand Challenge for Humanity.
The seminar was conducted in collaboration with the Educational Development Centre (EDC) and the Community of Practice – Educational Research on 18 October 2024. It attracted interests from approximately 40 colleagues who were eager to understand how the emergence of AI could help mankind in the midst of concerns including climate Change, pollution, wealth disparities and regional conflicts.
In the morning of 19 October 2024, the 3rd Global Harwell Online Forum was held with the title “Collateral Damage: The Human Cost of Unethical AI”. We were honoured to have four global luminaries, namely Prof Usama FAYYAD, Prof Dragan GAŠEVIĆ, Prof David Miguel GRAY, and Prof Collin LYNCH, each sharing their unique perspectives around the topic. Facilitated by Prof HU, the panel discussion that followed further enlightened around 30 online participants on how the risks of inappropriate use of AI technologies could best be mitigated.
