On the afternoon of Friday, 22nd April, an entourage of 18 visitors, mostly Vice Presidents, CIOs and Heads of Online Learning from German universities, paid a visit to PolyU to learn and share experience on blended learning, and to foster collaborations. The primary aim of the delegation is to appraise the forefront efforts by selective Asian universities including PolyU on the application of digital technologies in higher education. In the area of digital learning, PolyU was a Gold Winner in the Asia category of the Wharton QS Reimagine Education Awards 2015 and a Platinum Winner of the LearnX Impact Awards on Best E-Learning Design in 2016.
After a quick networking lunch hosted by Professor Angelina Yuen VP (International Affairs), the delegation was greeted by Professor Chetwyn Chan (AVP, Teaching and Learning) who gave a presentation on PolyU’s overall plan, strategy and implementation of blended learning, followed by Professors Eric Tsui and WB Lee, associate director and director of the Knowledge Management and Innovation Research Centre (KMIRC), shared with the visitors various ways to conduct online lectures, pedagogical design in online content, Personal Learning Environment and Networks (PLE&N), MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses), and the use of Cloud for Open Innovation. The visit was concluded with a dialog session on challenges and issues encountered in enacting change especially on the adoption of blended learning and on breeding role models to lead change in an institution.
Despite the tight schedule, all in all, it was a very fruitful and initial exchange. More sharings and exchanges are being planned in 2017. Besides Hong Kong, the delegation also visited Singaporean and Malaysian universities and research establishments.
