Student Mobile App - PolyULife feature enhancement

We are excited to announce that version 1.1.2 of PolyULife app has just been released on 29 March 2023. The 1.1.2 app version includes performance improvements, push notification enhancements, campus map, and a side column added for quick browsing and navigating function.

AV/ IT improvements at General Teaching venue in semester 2

In response to the issues encountered by instructors when using audio system at General Teaching rooms (GT) with ceiling microphone in semester 2, mitigating actions have been taken.

IT security awareness training

Phishing attacks are growing increasingly sophisticated. The threats can be in the form of fraudulent messages impersonating senior staff members or painted scenarios that require recipients to take immediate action. As a result of sharing user login credentials or financial information, victims’ accounts can become compromised, or they may suffer financial losses.

IT security online training: avoid falling into online scams trap

A new module of IT Security Online Training Course for students and staff is now available on LEARN@PolyU. This module covers numerous types of online scams that pose risks to the PolyU community and shares practical tips on how to avoid falling victim to them.

IT skills for future of works / IT skills for research workshop recordings

A number of IT skill training workshops held in semester 2 covering topics like Python, Machine Learning and Neural Networks, etc. had been completed. Visit Online Training Resources of ITS website to access the recorded workshop sessions for those who are interested in learning.

New features in Microsoft Forms for education

Microsoft Forms allows users to create custom surveys, quizzes, polls, and questionnaires. Users can provide response to survey, quizzes, polls or questionnaires using a web browser on devices with different types of form factor. Collected responses can be reviewed and analyzed using MS Office software.

IT skills workshops for students in March

A series of workshops on IT skills for Future of Work and Research will be conducted in March 2023 for students. Topics include using Blender software to have object modelling on game development, Python & R programming, Deep Learning applications with real-case examples.

Security enhancement on PolyU multi-factor authentication service

Multi-factor authentication (MFA) provides extra security protection for accessing online applications or service outside campus. When connecting to campus network remotely from home or outside HKSAR using GlobalProtect VPN, users will be prompted to enter NetID and NetPassword. The Microsoft Authenticator app on pre-registered smart phone is also required to either approve (push notification verification) or input the 6-digit one time passcode (passcode verification) before access granted. Microsoft, our service provider of MFA service, will introduce “number matching” for users who select to use push notification as MFA verification method in March 2023. This will protect users from accidentally approving sign-in request initiated by a third party.

Anthology Blackboard workshop held successfully

To raise instructors and teaching assistants’ awareness on the latest development on LEARN@PolyU, the Anthology Blackboard workshop on 22 February 2023 was finished successfully. With over 50 participants from various departments, and guests from Korea University.
