(All staff) Using PolyU Staff Mobile App QR code to enter campus

To: All Colleagues From: Information Technology Services Office             Date:  19 August 2024             Subject: Using PolyU Staff Mobile App QR code to enter campus        Effective from 1 September 2024, besides using a staff ID card, colleagues can leverage the latest version of the PolyU Staff Mobile App (v1.3) which includes biometric authentication and a campus access QR code function to facilitate entering campus via the main entrances listed below: Block L and P main entrance turnstiles with optical reader Block A G/F, Block D podium level and Block Y G/F and podium level main entrance portable optical reader Block X-Z footbridge portable optical reader   The time-based QR code generated by the PolyU Staff Mobile App will include encrypted identifier information from your staff ID card.  Your physical staff ID card and the new time-based QR code can be used interchangeably to enter campus via the above main entrances.   The PolyU Staff Mobile App v1.3 is now available for download on both the App Store and Google Play. PolyU Staff Mobile App v1.3 requires a mobile device with iOS 14 or higher, or Android 11 or higher, to ensure smooth operation.  To use the biometric function for authentication, the mobile device must support and have biometric features enabled.       Please refer to the PolyU Staff Mobile App User Guide for details on first -time registration for using biometric authentication, such as Face ID or Touch ID for logging into the PolyU Staff Mobile App.   In addition to entering campus via the main entrances, the Library and Sports facilities’ main entrance turnstiles with optical readers will also support the use of the PolyU Staff Mobile App QR code, as well as the staff ID card.   Should you need further information on the PolyU Staff Mobile App, please contact the IT HelpCentre (Tel: 2766 5900, WhatsApp / WeChat: 6577 9669) or reach out to us via the IT Online ServiceDesk.                     Information Technology Services Office

Using PolyULife student mobile app campus access QR code to enter campus

  To: All Students From: Information Technology Services Office             Date:  19 August 2024             Subject: Using PolyULife student mobile app campus access QR code to enter campus     Effective from the 2024/25 academic year, besides using a student ID card, students can leverage the latest version of the PolyULife student mobile app (v2.2.1) which includes biometric authentication and a campus access QR code function to facilitate entering campus via the main entrances listed below: Block L and P main entrance turnstiles with optical reader Block A G/F, Block D podium level and Block Y G/F and podium level main entrance portable optical reader Block X-Z footbridge portable optical reader   The time-based QR code generated by the PolyULife mobile app will include encrypted identifier information from your student ID card.  Your physical student ID card and the new time-based QR code can be used interchangeably to enter campus via the above main entrances.   The PolyULife student mobile app v2.2.1 is now available for download on both the App Store and Google Play. (All students) PolyUWLAN Wi-Fi Security Certificate Refresh

To: Students From: Information Technology Services Office             Date:  12 August 2024             Subject: PolyUWLAN Wi-Fi Security Certificate Refresh      Dear Students     The annual Wi-Fi security certificate refresh for PolyUwill take place at 6pm on Monday, 12 August 2024.   After the refresh the first time you connect to the PolyU Wi-Fi network, you will receive a prompt from the operating system of your smartphone or Windows notebook.   Please click on 'Trust' or 'Connect' to proceed with the PolyUWLAN Wi-Fi connection.   Once the new certificate has been accepted by your device's operating system, you will not be prompted with the same message again.     For iPhone users:   For Windows users:   For Android users: The behavior of Android devices can vary. (All staff) Zoom Client Update

To: All Staff  From: Information Technology Services Office Date: 8 July 2024 Subject: Zoom Client Update     Zoom software update to version 6.1.0. (Zoom Workplace)   Zoom Cloud Video Conference software has released a new update recently. All PolyU domain-joined and classroom teaching PC Zoom client software will be updated to version 6.1.0 by 12 July 2024.   The Zoom client software update will be carried out in the background, and no action is required from the user's side.   Upon being refreshed to Zoom 6.1.0, it will carry the new product name of Zoom Workplace.   To check the Zoom client version in your office machine: Run the Zoom software and sign in using SSO. (All staff) Update on PolyU GenAI App

To: All Staff and Students From: Information Technology Services Office Subject: Update on PolyU GenAI App Date: 2 Jul 2024     Dear all Colleagues and Students,     To keep pace with the latest developments in large language models and to bring you more sophisticated GenAI tools for teaching & learning and research activities, the following update on the PolyU GenAI app will take effect from 3 July 2024.     OpenAI GPT-4o   OpenAI released the GPT-4o in May 2024. Access via Azure Cloud regional hosting centers for text chat and image-to-text was released to Enterprise customers in June 2024. GPT-4o matches the performance of GPT-4 Turbo on English text and code benchmarks, but only costs half the token fee for both input and output. GPT-4o will be available on the PolyU GenAI app on 3 July 2024, replacing the GPT-4 Turbo 0125 preview, the GPT-4 0613 model, as well as image-to-text using the Azure Cognitive Vision service.         Alibaba Tongyi Qianwen 通义千问 (Qwen1.5-110B-chat) Alibaba Cloud released Tongyi Qianwen large language model Qwen1.5-110B in February 2024. The Qwen1.5-110B-chat model improved alignment with human preference during training and enhanced multilingual support covering English, Chinese, French, Spanish, German, Russian, Korean, Japanese and Arabic.    Qwen1.5-110B-chat was released on PolyU GenAI on 1 June 2024, replacing Qwen-72B model.  The use of Qwen1.5-110B-chat model will not consume the monthly credit usage entitlement.     Mistral AI Mixtral-8x22B-instruct-v.01   Mistral AI released the Mixtral-8x22B Mixture of Expert model in April 2024. The Mixtral-8x22B model outperforms Mistral-8x7B in common sense and reasoning benchmarks, making it one of the best open-source models for complex reasoning tasks.   The Mixtral-8x22B model will be available on PolyU GenAI on 3 July 2024, replacing the Mixtral-8x7B model. The use of the Mixtral-8x22B model will not consume the monthly credit usage entitlement.       Meta Llama 3 70B   Meta released Llama 3 in April 2024. The Llama 3-70B-instruct model has been pre-trained and fine-tuned to support a broad range of use cases with improved reasoning, code generation and instruction following.  Llama 3 70B has adopted both input and output safeguards in addition to model-level risks mitigations to improve use safety.     The Meta Llama 3 70B model will be available on PolyU GenAI on 3 July 2024.  The use of Llama 3 70B will not consume the monthly credit entitlement.     Stable Diffusion 3.0   Stable Diffusion 3.0 was released on the Stability.ai Cloud in the first half of 2024.
