Innovative Diaper for the Elderly that Keeps off Moisture, Odour, and Allergy

Urinary incontinence is a common symptom among elderly people, especially the frailer ones. Apart from affecting the quality of life and causing skin complications, the demand on assistance can be extremely high for the sufferers. While conservative means of treatment do not work, a special incontinence apparel might be the best choice currently available on the market. This project aims to create an absorbent, antiseptic, antiperspirant and deodourant diaper for elderly people suffering from urinary incontinence. It was achieved by filling a pocket of the diaper with a special formula of Traditional Chinese Herbal Medicines (TCHM) in extract powder form. The resulting diaper can reduce the wearers’ chance of getting skin irritation from urine and lower their demand for caretaking and assistance, thus improving their quality of life.
