周博士於牛津大學獲得博士學位及於香港大學獲得碩士、學士學位。他的研究主要在於決策和強化學習的神經科學。在現代生活中,需要在眾多選擇之間做出決定是非常普遍的。但是,我們對決策的神經機制的認知主要基於一些早期的實驗測試少量選項之間的決策行為。因此,最近他的研究重點考察這些機制是否可以應用於具多項選擇的決策。當中關鍵的研究問題包括人們如何從大量選項中採集信息? 人們如何利用信息來引導他們的決策?
周博士一般結合大腦成像、腦刺激、眼動追踪和計算模型技術進行研究。 他的研究結果主要顯示:(1)在兩選項決策中,外側眶額皮層(lOFC)強化學習和指導最佳決策具重要作用; (2)在三選項決策中,人們做出較差決策時,腹內側前額葉皮層(vmPFC)的決策信號減弱; (3)當有大量選項時,背外側前額葉皮層參與過濾與選擇無關的信息。 這些研究結果發表在Nature Neuroscience和Neuron等期刊上。
