Biography
Wayne has been pursuing his career as a geriatric physiotherapist since he graduated from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He obtained his postgraduate qualifications MSc in Clinical Gerontology and PhD in Medical Sciences (Geriatrics) at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. He has been awarded the SH Ho Fellowship to support his PhD study in geriatrics. Wayne has gained diverse clinical, teaching and research experience in various settings. He has been a frontline practitioner serving older adults living in the community, residential care and infirmary units. He has also been teaching in various tertiary institutions, including The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2013-2015.
Wayne's PhD study investigated the effectiveness of the Chronic Disease Self-Management Program for older adults with chronic conditions, and the effectiveness of the Falls Management Exercise program for older adults with a risk of falls. He also concurrently assisted the research on the community-based rehabilitation programs for older adults with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and chronic heart failure. His research interest focuses on geriatric rehabilitation, dementia care, falls prevention and active ageing. His recent work is aiming at developing physical performance assessments (e.g. walking, balance and functional performances) for older adults with dementia and cognitive impairment.
Translating research findings into daily clinical practice has been his goal as a clinical researcher and geriatric physiotherapy practitioner.
