Biography

Prof. Zhang was born in Zhejiang, China. He received the BSc and MSc degrees from Zhejiang University (ZJU) in 1997 and 2000, respectively, and received the PhD degree from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2003. He started his academic career in ZJU as a Lecturer in 2003, and was promoted to Associate Professor of Optical Engineering in 2005. He was a Research Scholar of State University of New-York at Buffalo (UB) during the period of 2006-2008 and University of California, San Diego (UCSD) in 2011, respectively. He joined the Department of Electrical Engineering (currently Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering) of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University as an Associate Professor in 2012 and has been a Professor at the same department since 2020.

Prof. Zhang received Outstanding Staff Awards from ZJU’s College of Information Science and Technology in 2005 and from ZJU’s Department of Optical Engineering in 2009. He received Award of Optics in China 2008 from Laser & Optoelectronics Progress, Mar. 2009. In 2011, he received Senior Fellowship Award from International Institute for Complex Adaptive Matter (ICAM-I2CAM), USA. After joining PolyU, he received Merit Award in Research and Scholarly Activities (Individual) 2019/20 from PolyU’s Faculty of Engineering and received Research Grant Achievement Award from PolyU’s Faculty of Engineering in 2020 and 2022, respectively.
