Summary
Open Call for Culture and Art Tech Exhibition
PolyU Research Centre for Cultural and Art Technology is pleased to invite scholars and artists to participate in the second year of the Culture and Art Tech Exhibition. Last year, we successfully curated the inaugural exhibition, showcasing the work of scholar-artists from leading universities across Asia and promoting collaboration among scholars, artists, and industry professionals.
This year, we extend our invitation to scholars and artists worldwide to submit their art tech papers and creative works. Our goal is to highlight research that explores Chinese and Hong Kong culture through innovative research and applications, organized into the following categories:

Cinema Theatre (Single screen-based media)

Immersive Theatre (3 sided screen-based media)

Monitor-based Installation

Emerging Technology Lab

Music and Live Performance
The categories covers researches on GenAI, VR, AR, XR, projection mapping, spatial computing application, interactive artwork or installation, web-based work, video, music and live performances etc., while we also welcome different experiments to push the boundaries of culture and art technology.
Eligibility
- This is a worldwide open call with no restrictions regarding age or nationality of applicants.
- Both established and emerging scholars, artists, designers, technologists, and interdisciplinary creatives are encouraged to submit their work.
- All applicants must be either the Principal Investigator of the technical and art paper or the primary creator of the submitted work. Alternatively, applicants must have obtained full consent to submit the work for this open call.
Fee and sponsorship
- No application fee.
- Selected artists are responsible for arranging and covering the costs of their transportation and accommodation in Hong Kong, as well as the expenses associated with the delivery, setup, and dismantling of their artwork.
- Artists are permitted to seek sponsorship and support from institutions, organizations, governments, or their representatives to offset these costs.
- The logos of sponsoring entities will be acknowledged and displayed in captions or slides at the event venue, providing visibility for supporters.
Exhibition Venue and on-site support
- The exhibition will take place in the Podium of the Jockey Club Innovation Tower, an architectural landmark designed by Zaha Hadid, located on the main campus of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
- Each selected creative work will be allocated a minimum of one standard display panel measuring 1.5m (W) x 2.8m (H), accompanied by a desk for presentation purposes. [Info of Standard display panel] For additional requests, please apply Emerging Technology Lab and submit your proposal.
- For all categories, should you have any additional technical requirements, please specify the technical specifications and installation needs in your proposal. The organizing committee will evaluate these requests based on overall arrangement and feasibility.

Shortlisted announcement: Mid-Dec 2024 via email
On-site installation: 20-24 Jan 2025
Closing Ceremony: 27 Feb 2025
Dismantle: 27 – 28 Feb 2025

Recognition
Selected scholars and artists will be provided a certificate of participation.
Important Note:
The event's official language is English, with Chinese provided as a supplementary language. While applications may be submitted in Chinese, successful applicants will be required to furnish all necessary documentation in English following their selection.
