Policy and Society
This direction mainly covers the topics of resources management policy evaluation, including working with the Hong Kong government for waste reduction and resources circulation, investigating responsibility scheme on waste control, developing less landfill operation strategies, as well as conducting public consultations. Our mission is to support the Hong Kong Government’s policy in achieving carbon neutrality in 2050 and to promote Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area towards circular economy.
Environmental and Economic Impact Assessment
This direction mainly covers the topics of environmental and economic impact assessments, including life cycle analysis (LCA) and life cycle cost analysis (LCCA) on waste recycling approaches of organic waste such as waste food, paper, yard waste, and inorganic waste such as construction and demolition waste, incineration residues. It will serve as a guide to support decision-makers to select the proper recycling technologies for the efficient reutilizations and sustainable applications of various waste materials.
Waste Valorization Technology
This direction mainly covers the topics of valorization of algae by high-throughput-high-capacity centrifugation, food and yard waste to value-added chemicals and multi-functional biochar, biorefinery for biofuel and other valuable products from organic waste.
Recycling and Sustainable Construction
This direction mainly covers the topics of CO2 sequestration and high value products derived from construction and demolition waste, recycling of waste glass and incineration residues for concrete application, recycling of asphalt, rubber, plastics for pavement engineering, reuse of waste fibre and polymer, and rare earth metals recovery.
