PolyU delegation to Europe deepens collaborations with renowned universities

To enhance international academic collaborations and pursue joint initiatives, a high-level PolyU delegation visited several renowned universities in Switzerland, Poland and the Netherlands between 20 and 25 May.

The delegation, led by Council Chairman Dr Lam Tai-fai and including President Prof. Jin-Guang Teng, Vice President (Research and Innovation) Prof. Christopher Chao and Vice President (Student and Global Affairs) Prof. Ben Young, visited ETH Zurich in Switzerland, University of Warsaw in Poland and Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands, all ranked as their countries’ top tertiary institution.

PolyU delegation also paid a visit to SHL Schweizerische Hotelfachschule Luzern, one of the best Swiss hotel management schools in Lucerne, Switzerland, to exchange ideas and experience.

In a series of meetings at the senior leadership level, as well as during facility and campus visits, representatives from the host institutions shared expertise and innovative insights, particularly on topics relating to education, research, talent nurturing, innovation and academic exchange. The delegation also paid a visit to SHL Schweizerische Hotelfachschule Luzern, one of the best Swiss hotel management schools in Lucerne, Switzerland, to exchange ideas and experience.

During the visit to the University of Warsaw (UW) in Poland, President Teng and the Rector of UW signed a formal partnership agreement for a dual bachelor’s degree programme between the universities.

During the visit in Switzerland, PolyU delegation was warmly welcomed by the Head of High School and Director of Education of International School of Central Switzerland.


In addition to the university visits, the delegation was warmly welcomed during tours to two top-tier high schools in Switzerland and Poland respectively, during which they met with the schools’ senior mangement. The purpose of the school visits was to engage with the schools’ senior management teams with a view to recruiting high-calibre students to study at PolyU.

The delegation also paid courtesy visits to the Chinese Embassy in each country and discussed educational issues with each of the Chinese Ambassadors.

The trip was rewarding, and the University will continue leveraging outbound visit opportunities to foster academic cooperation with prominent institutions and actively recruit international students to join the PolyU community.
