Summary

This talk is mainly focused on scientific strategies to develop and integrate of advanced fibrous materials and multifunctional fibrous materials with enhanced properties in electronic devices. Wearable electronics fabricated on lightweight and flexible substrate are widely believed to have great potential for portable and self-chargeable devices. Several promising applications, for example e-skin, smartwatches, and bracelets, have been successfully achieved for the replacement of conventional electronic gadgets. Lightweight and wearable power supply modules with high energy storage performance are desirable for wearable technology. One strategy is to directly integrate a conventional rechargeable energy storage device, such as a battery or a supercapacitor (SC), into fabrics. Also, nano-chemistry is an emerging sub discipline of the chemical and materials sciences that deals with the development of methods for synthesizing nano scale bits of a desired material and with scientific investigations of the nano material obtained. Nano fibrous materials have numerous possible commercial and technological applications including use in electronic. In the last few decades, there has been significant progress in nanostructures with nanoscale and molecular scale properties that can satisfy the demands of the 21st century, for example, carbon nanotubes, inorganic semiconducting and metallic nanotubes/wires, conjugated polymer nanofibers/tubes, etc. These nanostructures have a deep impact on both fundamental research and potential applications in nanoelectronics or molecular electronics, nano devices and systems, nanocomposite materials, bio-nanotechnology and medicine.

Prof. Roohollah BAGHERZADEH

Director of Institute for Advanced Textile Materials and Technology

Head of Advanced Fibrous Materials Research LAB

Amirkabir University of Technology

Roohollah Bagherzadeh is Associate Professor of Fibrous Materials at Amirkabir University of Technology (Tehran Polytechnic). Dr Bagherzadeh received his doctoral degree from Amirkabir University of Technology (AUT, in Tehran, Iran). Upon graduation, he spent more than 3 years as Post-Doc and visiting scholar at AUT, Deakin University (Australia, 2010-2011), and UNSW (Australia, 2011). He has more than 20 years experiences in education, research, and cooperation with diverse external companies and research institutes. He works broadly in the area of correlating and understanding the nanoscopic and macroscopic properties of advanced fibrous materials, with emphases on those for energy harvesting, textile based sensors, functional textile, and clothing for a diverse range of applications, including developing novel flexible nanogenerators and energy scavenging for self-powered microelectronics and flexible conductive and transparent materials. Dr Bagherzadeh is currently the Director of Institute for Advanced Textile Materials and Technologies and head of the Advanced Fibrous Materials Research hub (AFM-HUB) in AUT.
