Summary
PolyU will be participating in InnoTech Expo 2018, introducing its research projects and showcasing a number of award winning technologies. The expo will be held from 23 Sep to 2 Oct at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre. This year, InnoTech expo will demonstrate the development of innovation and technology by linking up the inventions and significant achievements from ancient times to the presence with a series of lectures, exhibition, and forums delivered by various scientists and experts.
At “Best of Hong Kong” zone, PolyU will showcase the invention – “Low cost flame retardant treatment for cotton with co-catalyst system”, developed by Dr KAN Chi-wai, Associate Professor of The Institute of Textiles and Clothing. This invention has won a “Global Innovation Awards” at TechConnect World Conference and Expo 2018.
Prof. Carly Lam of the School of Optometry will deliver a speech at “Science & Tech Seminar” with the topic on the Defocus Incorporated Multiple Segments (DIMS) Spectacle Lens, which can slow down myopic progression in children. This invention has won the Grand Prize and Gold Medal with the Congratulations of Jury at the 46th International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva.

At “Maker Demonstration, Prof. Wing Bun Lee from the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering will introduce a novel micro-embossing equipment for manufacturing precision glass lenses, which is applicable for smartphones and optical instruments and devices in varied fields. This invention has been granted with eight patents and was awarded a Gold Medal at the 46th International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva 2018.

At “Engineering Science and the future” forum, Ir Prof. Xu You-lin, Dean of the Faulty of Construction and Environment and Chair Professor of Structural Engineering, will share the views with other four speakers about how Engineering Science would lead Hong Kong into a Smart City.
