TechConnect World Innovation Conference and Expo
Over the years, the TechConnect World Innovation Conference and Expo has connected top applied research and early-stage innovations from universities, laboratories, and start-ups with industry end-users and prospectors. Since 2017, PolyU research teams have snatched the global innovation awards for consecutive years. This affirms PolyU's endeavours in developing and translating the technologies into practical applications with intrinsic value for the benefit of the global community.

About Smart 50 Awards
In partnership with Smart Cities Connect, Smart Cities Connect Foundation and the US Ignite, the Smart 50 Awards recognises impactful smart cities projects across the world annually. They aim to honour the most innovative and influential technologies in the areas of digital transformation, urban infrastructure and community engagement. The award presentation ceremony for this year was held at the Smart Cities Connect Conference & Expo in Washington DC in October 2021.
Three smart city projects of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) won the 2021 Smart 50 Awards. It is the first time that PolyU’s research teams have seized the prestigious awards, which recognise global innovative smart city projects annually. The 2021 Smart 50 Awards features winners from all over the world, such as Canada, Japan, Germany, Israel, Spain and the United States, and PolyU is the only award recipient from Hong Kong. The award presentation ceremony was held in the United States later this year.
In support of Hong Kong’s Smart City Blueprint, PolyU has been working closely with the government and community partners to implement smart projects to address various societal and environmental issues, as well as to safeguard public health in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. These projects have earned various international accolades, including the 2021 Smart 50 Awards.

About IAFP
Founded in 1911, the International Association for Food Protection (IAFP) which consists over 4,000 members, is home to educators, government officials, microbiologists, food industry executives and quality control professionals from 50 nations who are involved in all aspects of growing, storing, transporting, processing and preparing all types of foods. IAFP aims to provide food safety professionals worldwide with a forum to exchange information on protecting the food supply.
Food Safety Consortium (FSC) was recognized as the Hong Kong affiliate of the International Association for Food Protection (IAFP) since mid-2015, as the two organizations have consistent objectives and the affiliation will effectively synergize their efforts in advancing food safety in various regions of the world.
The Convener of Food Safety Consortium of PolyU Professor Terence Lok-ting Lau was granted with the 2021 International Leadership Award by the International Association for Food Protection (IAFP). This recognition from the IAFP is a significant endorsement for Prof. Lau’s achievement in the field for bringing PolyU’s contribution in food safety and quality to the next level.
PolyU’s Food Safety Consortium received the International Association for Food Protection (IAFP) Affiliate Communication Award for our development of various communication channels with our members and high-quality materials in promoting science and technology as the foundation of advancing food safety and quality with informative content and attractive layout.
The Food Safety Consortium (FSC), initiated by The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU), has been awarded the C.B. Shogren Memorial Award by IAFP in recognition of FSC’s exceptional achievement in advancing global food safety. FSC becomes the first IAFP affiliate outside of the Americas to receive this prestigious award. The award ceremony was held on July 12, 2017 at the 2017 IAFP Annual Meeting which took place in Tampa, Florida.
