Summary
Professor Alex Wai, Vice President (Research Development) of PolyU led the team from the Faculty of Engineering and the Innovation and Technology Development Office to Alibaba’s headquarter at Hanzhou on Apr 12, to have in-depth discussion with Mr. Zhang Jianfeng, Chief Technology Officer of Alibaba for more high-impact collaborations.
And during the Alibaba Annual Research Collaboration Summit 2018 held on Apr 21, Professor Cao Jiannong, Chair Professor of Department of Computing and Director of University’s Research Facility in Big Data Analytics was invited to give a keynote speech. He introduced the applications and different innovative values of Smart Internet of Things, from High-precision Localization in Smart Warehouse to Smart Objects, Smart Human Sensing, Urban Dynamics, as well as Tackling Grand Challenges of Food Safety.
Professor Zhang Lei, the Chair Professor & Associate Head of Department of Computing, who built up solid collaborative research with Alibaba AI central R&D organization and City Brain Initiatives, was presented with The Best Partner Award in Alibaba-Academic Collaboration at the Summit.
Poly’s research excellence in big data analysis is flourished with the establishment of the University Research Facility in Big Data Analytics (UBDA). PolyU aims to provide an infrastructure with software tools and offer an open platform for cross-discipline collaboration among researchers and external partners to develop, support, service and sustain research into big data analytics. The Opening Ceremony will kick off on May 8, 2018.
