PolyU Promoted Life Science Capabilities at the Inaugural Asia Summit on Global Health (ASGH)

Co-organised by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), PolyU participated in the inaugural Asia Summit on Global Health (ASGH) themed “Shaping a Resilient and Sustainable Future” on 24 November, 2021 (Wednesday) at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC). The summit brought together more than 70 speakers and over 21,000 participants onsite and online, including senior government health officials from around the world, representatives of international organisations, medical research experts as well as investors and business leaders to share their insights from the perspectives of healthcare, finance and technology, and examined the latest technological developments and investment opportunities in the healthcare sector.

In the fireside chat “Resilient Public Health System for the Future: Part I” which was moderated by Mr. Alan Au, Director at the HK Bio-Med Innotech Association, PolyU’s Associate Professor of Department of Health Technology and Informatics Dr. Gilman Siu, together with Prof. Kwok-Yung Yuen, Henry Fok Professor in Infectious Diseases; Chair of Infectious Diseases, Department of Microbiology, University of Hong Kong, shared with the audience on what the global community have learned from the COVID-19 pandemic, and what are the key elements in preparing the public health system against infectious diseases. Measures such as overall capacity upgrading of local hospitals against the spread of infectious diseases, allocation of resources and infrastructure in supporting the development and manufacturing of new drugs and vaccines, setting up of long-term genomic surveillance database for monitoring and prediction of infectious diseases are some of the key points covered.

PolyU promoted our latest projects and innovations at the main booth and InnoHealth Showcase, as well as at the Deal Flow Matchmaking service, connecting with the industry and investors on potential collaborations.
