Technology Forum Co-organised by PolyU Set Sights on Microelectronics Development Trends

The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) co-organised the Microelectronics Technology Forum (MTF) with the newly founded Semiconductor Nanotechnology Alliance, industrial partners and other 4 local universities on 3-5 August 2021. The Forum connected notable professionals from universities, tech start-ups, investors, and world-leading corporations to explore opportunities brought by the emerging microelectronics technologies. The 3-day inspirational hybrid event has attracted over 600 participants from more than 20 countries/regions, in which half of them are C-level executives, directors, well-known scholars, academicians as well as government officials.

Microelectronics Technology Forum (MTF) was held at PolyU on 4th and 5th August

The second day of MTF with the topic on “Business opportunities of emerging technologies” has involved promising start-ups and investors in the microelectronics-related field into active discussions on the business opportunities, challenges arose and how to grasp the chance to accelerate business to the next level.

“We are delighted to have this unique opportunity to synergise our expertise in advancing microelectronic technology and bringing significant impacts to society. PolyU has also established a strong connection with industry, bridging experts from academia and pace-setting entrepreneurs,” said Professor Wing-tak Wong, Deputy President and Provost of PolyU.

Hong Kong SAR Government’s Secretary for Innovation and Technology Mr Alfred Sit Wing-hang together with Mr. Zhi-ming Liu, General Manager of Beijing-Hong Kong Exchange of Personnel Centre, attended the inauguration of the Semiconductor Nanotechnology Alliance on the last day of the forum. With the theme “Critical Research Infrastructure”, the third day forum gathered renowned speakers from five local universities (HKU, CUHK, HKUST, CityU and PolyU) and the Stanford University to share their insights on the research infrastructures that are essential and critical for the development of microelectronic technologies. Prof. Tao Xiaoming, Chair Professor and Director of Research Institute of Intelligent Wearable Systems, PolyU, also introduced various research projects that integrate the technology of microelectronics in intelligent wearable systems.

The 3-day forum received overwhelming positive responses and fostered wider conversations and idea exchanges on microelectronic and semiconductor technologies among different stakeholders in the society. It is expected that more collaborations, stronger tie with partners and technology innovations are anticipated to cope with the industrial challenges brought by intense competitions among nations and to encourage technological advancement for a smarter and more sustainable world.
