萧博士为职业治疗师，主要研究心理健康及康复辅导。他分别获得保健管理和研究硕士、应用统计硕士和社会福利博士学位。其后他又接受过辅导、家庭治疗、职业评估和康复方面的专业训练。萧博士教授之科目有康复心理学、辅导技巧、精神病康复、职业康复、心理测量、研究及统计方法等课程。他的研究领域包括慢性病的自我管理、开发康复成效测量方法、评估及训练各种社会问题解决方法，以及青年人正面发展计画等。
