Biography

Dr David Yu obtained a Professional Diploma in Physiotherapy from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). Following this, he furthered his studies in the cardiopulmonary subspecialty. He earned a qualification as a Respiratory Technician from the California College for Health Sciences and subsequently completed a Respiratory Therapist programme at the same institution. Dr Yu was then conferred the qualification of Certified Clinical Exercise Physiologist by the American College of Sports Medicine. He completed a Master of Science in Health Care (Physiotherapy) and a Doctor of Philosophy at PolyU.

Dr David Yu has extensive experience in various clinical settings. After graduating from PolyU in 1989, he worked as a Physiotherapist at Prince of Wales Hospital, South Kwai Chung Polyclinic, and Kowloon Hospital. In 2008, Dr David Yu was promoted to Senior Physiotherapist at Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH), where he was responsible for developing cardiopulmonary services at QEH and the Kowloon Central Cluster (KCC) of the Hospital Authority (HA). Dr Yu also served as the MPT clinical placement coordinator at QEH.

Dr David Yu specialises in Cardiopulmonary Physiotherapy. He received the Hong Kong Lung Foundation Fellowship in 1997. Additionally, he is a Founding Fellow (Cardiopulmonary) and the Honorary Secretary of the Hong Kong College of Physiotherapy. While working at HA, he was the convenor of the Physiotherapy Workgroup on Pulmonary Rehabilitation (1994-2000), Convenor of the Specialty Group on Cardiac Services (2014-2019), and Convenor of the Cardiopulmonary Specialty Group (2022-2024) under the Physiotherapy Coordinating Committee of the HA.

In 2019, Dr David Yu was recognised as the Outstanding Staff member at QEH and KCC and received the Merit Staff award from HA for his exceptional performance and contributions to the profession.
