Biography
Mr Dereck Fu has a robust academic and professional background. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and furthered his studies with a Diploma in Modern Acupuncture accredited by the Hong Kong Physiotherapy Association and a Master's Degree in Clinical Physiotherapy (Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy) from Curtin University in Australia.
Dereck brings a wealth of experience from both the public and private sectors. His past exposure in the Hospital Authority offered him invaluable insights into the healthcare system and patient care, ranging from acute to rehabilitation settings. Additionally, he has honed his clinical and management skills by working in various private physiotherapy centres and orthopaedic clinics.
Mr Fu has a rich background in sports physiotherapy, having worked with various sports teams. His notable experiences include serving as a physiotherapist for the Hong Kong Football Youth Representative Teams and the Hong Kong Men’s Cricket Representative Team. This exposure has equipped him with unique skills and knowledge in managing sports-related injuries.
Mr Fu recognises the multifactorial causes of musculoskeletal and sports disorders, understanding that these conditions often arise from a complex interplay of physical, psychological, and social factors. He is keen to research these multifaceted contributors to better understand and address such disorders.
In addition to his clinical and research pursuits, Mr Fu is passionate about educating the next generation of physiotherapists. By imparting his experience, he aims to equip his students with the skills and mindset necessary for contemporary evidence-based physiotherapy management.
