Biography
Dr Vinas-Guasch received his MSc and PhD in Cognitive science and neurolinguistics at Bangor University in Wales, UK. Before joining the RS department at PolyU, he worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the State Key Lab for Brain and Cognition and the department of Psychiatry, HKU, and at the Early Childhood department at EdUHK. Later on, he joined the Clinical Brain Lab at NTU in Singapore as a research fellow.
Dr Vinas-Guasch has a diverse research background, including studies on language acquisition, clinical manifestations of neurocognitive disorders such as schizophrenia and stroke, cerebellar contributions to cognition and automated methods of brain parcellation in neuroimaging. He has conducted fMRI studies to study functional networks for audio-visual integration in reading, large scale connectivity analyses of the involvement of subcortical regions in higher cognition and more recently, an fMRI-guided TMS study to identify the involvement of cerebro-cerebellar loops in working memory. He is currently exploring the suitability of automated, native-space individual parcellation methods in the analysis of imaging data and cerebellar forward models in cognitive impairment
Dr Vinas-Guasch's ultimate aim of research is to apply theoretical findings to interventions to help patients suffering from neurological and mental disability.
